Both the Toyota Innova and Maruti Ertiga are 7-seater vehicles, and both are popular choices for outstation trips from Pune. But they're very different vehicles. The price points differ, the comfort differs, and each one is strong in a different way. If you're planning an outstation trip from Pune and trying to decide between the two, this page will help you pick the right one.
We send out both vehicles every day. Shirdi pilgrimages, Goa road trips, Mahabaleshwar family outings, the early-morning run to Mumbai airport. After thousands of bookings, we know exactly when each SUV makes sense and when it doesn't. Here's the honest breakdown.

The Ertiga is Maruti's compact MPV, and it has become extremely popular for cab services across Pune. At ₹15/km, it's the most affordable 7-seater we offer. It's a good vehicle. Reliable, easy on fuel, gets the job done. But you should understand where it falls short before you book one for a long outstation trip.
The Ertiga works brilliantly for short outstation trips. Think Pune to Lonavala (65 km), Pune to Mahabaleshwar (120 km), or a day trip within 150-200 km. For 2-4 people with light to moderate luggage, it's perfectly comfortable and it saves you money over the Innova.
Where the Ertiga shows its limits is on longer highways and with more passengers. The third row is genuinely tight for adults. Fine for kids or a quick hop, but asking three grown-ups to sit back there for a 5-hour run to Goa isn't fair to anyone. With all three rows up the boot is minimal, so luggage becomes a puzzle. And the engine, efficient as it is, has noticeably less pull than the Innova on highway inclines and when you're overtaking.
If you've ever done a long road trip in India, you've probably ridden in an Innova at some point. There's a reason it runs the outstation cab market. The Innova is simply built for highways. At ₹18/km it costs more than the Ertiga, but on a 5-8 hour drive the difference in comfort is real.
The Innova has a more powerful diesel engine that takes highway driving in its stride. Overtaking trucks on the expressway, climbing the ghats between Pune and Goa, holding speed on long straight stretches. The suspension is better too, so you feel less beaten up on rough road patches. The cabin is wider, the second-row seats stay comfortable for hours, and even the third row is more usable than the Ertiga's.
Then there's luggage space. The Innova's boot swallows 3-4 large suitcases even with all seven seats occupied. On a family trip to Goa or a Shirdi pilgrimage with elderly relatives, the Innova just makes the whole trip easier. You arrive less tired, and that counts when there's a full day of sightseeing or darshan ahead.
Ertiga: compact, fuel-efficient, budget-friendly 7 seater
Roomy interiors, the kind of comfort that matters on long drives
Here's both vehicles lined up across the things that actually matter when you're booking an outstation cab. No marketing fluff, just the practical differences.

The Ertiga gets dismissed too quickly in a lot of comparisons. Truth is, it makes more sense than the Innova in several common situations. If any of these sound like your trip, keep the ₹3/km in your pocket and go with the Ertiga.
Heading to Lonavala (65 km), Mahabaleshwar (120 km), or Panchgani for a day trip or a weekend? The Ertiga eats up these distances. The roads are good, the drive is short, and you don't need the Innova's highway muscle for a 2-hour ride. A couple with kids or a small group of friends will be perfectly comfortable in it.
If there are only 2-4 of you, the Ertiga's limitations barely come into play. The first and second rows are comfortable, the third row folds flat so you've got plenty of room for bags, and the per-km savings add up. On a Pune to Shirdi trip with 3 people you save around ₹1,100 by picking the Ertiga. That's your prasad shopping budget right there.
Not every trip needs to be premium. Take a family of four going to Mahabaleshwar for the weekend. The Ertiga at ₹15/km is the smart, practical pick. You still get a well-maintained vehicle, a professional driver, AC, and comfortable seating, without paying for capacity and power you won't use.
Need a vehicle for a full day of running around Pune, with multiple stops, shopping and sightseeing? The Ertiga's 8-hour local package at ~₹4,800 is about ₹960 less than the Innova. And in city traffic, with frequent stops and short hops, the Ertiga is nimbler and a lot easier to park.
Tell us your destination, group size, and luggage. We'll recommend the right vehicle and confirm the fare in 2 minutes. No advance payment.
The Innova costs ₹3 more per km, and on a long trip that adds up. But there are situations where that extra spend buys comfort and safety that genuinely change how the trip feels by the time you get there.
Any trip that has you on the road for 5-8 hours: Pune to Goa (460 km), Pune to Nashik (210 km) with sightseeing, or a multi-city run. The Innova's better suspension, stronger engine, and wider cabin make those long hours far less tiring. Your back will thank you.
This is where the Innova earns its premium. Five adults, two kids, four suitcases and assorted bags? The Innova carries all of that without complaint. The Ertiga simply can't. If you're travelling with the full family plus luggage on a multi-day trip, the Innova is the only 7-seater that actually works.
Going to Mumbai Airport with your family? Three check-in bags, two cabin bags, and a stroller for the toddler, and the Innova swallows the lot. Put that same luggage in an Ertiga and someone's holding a bag on their lap. Not what you want at 5 AM when everyone's already grumpy.
For trips with older family members, especially Shirdi pilgrimages or temple tours, the Innova's higher seating, wider doors, and smoother ride really matter. Getting in and out is easier, the seats support backs and knees better, and you barely feel the potholes and speed breakers.
The Pune to Goa route goes through the Amboli or Vaibhavwadi ghats. Mahabaleshwar has steep hill roads. The Innova's diesel engine and heavier build handle these sections with more confidence. The driver has better control on inclines and sharp turns, and the vehicle feels planted even at speed.
Instead of a one-size-fits-all answer, here's what we actually recommend for each popular outstation route from Pune. This comes from what our regular customers book and what works best out on the road.
For 2-4 people the Ertiga is perfectly fine. It's a 3.5-hour highway drive on decent roads. For 5-7 people with overnight bags, especially if you're staying the night in Shirdi, go with the Innova. Most families doing Shirdi darshan lean Innova anyway, because there's usually prasad, extra clothes, and supplies for the elderly along for the ride.
This is an 8-9 hour drive with ghat sections. The Innova is the clear winner here. You need the engine power for the ghats, the ride comfort for 8+ hours on the road, and the luggage space for what is typically a 3-5 day trip. The Ertiga can do it for 2-3 people with minimal bags, but for a Goa trip, the Innova is worth the premium.
Short drive, mostly good roads. The Ertiga handles this route comfortably even with 5-6 people on board. It's a classic weekend trip: leave in the morning, reach by lunch. Unless you're hauling heavy luggage for a week-long stay, the Ertiga saves you money and you give up nothing on comfort.
If you are heading to the airport with multiple check-in bags and a full family, the Innova is the practical choice. The expressway drive is smooth either way, but the Innova handles airport-level luggage without any compromises. For 1-2 people with a single bag each, the Ertiga is fine (or even a sedan).
This is a 1.5-hour drive via the expressway. There's no real reason to book an Innova for Lonavala unless you've got 7 people and a boot full of picnic supplies. For a Lonavala day trip the Ertiga is spot on. Quick, comfortable, easy on the wallet.
The expressway makes this an easy 2.5-3 hour ride in either vehicle. If it is a light trip (meeting, event, returning same day), the Ertiga is great. If you have luggage or are transferring between cities, the Innova's space is more practical.
Let's put real numbers on the difference. Pune to Goa is one of our most-booked outstation routes, so here's a like-for-like round-trip comparison.
+ Tolls (~₹1,200) + Driver allowance (~₹600-800 for 2-3 days)
+ Tolls (~₹1,200) + Driver allowance (~₹600-800 for 2-3 days)
The Difference: ₹2,760 for a significantly more comfortable ride over 920 km.
Split between 5-6 people, that's roughly ₹460-550 per person extra. For a Goa trip that runs 8-9 hours each way, most of our customers reckon that's money well spent. But for a budget run with 2-3 friends, the Ertiga saves you almost ₹3,000, which buys a nice dinner once you reach Goa.

For Pune to Goa (460 km one way), the Innova is the better choice. It handles highway driving and ghat sections more comfortably, has a more powerful engine for overtaking on the expressway, and offers significantly more luggage space for a multi-day trip. The Ertiga works for 2-3 people with light luggage, but for a full family with bags, the Innova is worth the extra ₹3/km.
The Innova/Crysta rate for outstation trips from Pune is ₹18/km with CabsPune. This includes the vehicle and professional driver. Tolls, parking, and driver allowance for overnight trips are additional and charged at actuals. The minimum billing for outstation is 250 km per day.
Technically the Ertiga seats 7, but the third row is tight for adults on long drives. For trips over 3-4 hours with 7 people plus luggage, the Innova is a much better choice. The Ertiga is comfortably a 4-5 person vehicle for outstation trips. For 6-7 passengers, book an Innova.
The Ertiga rate for outstation trips from Pune is ₹15/km with CabsPune. For local 8-hour packages within Pune, it costs approximately ₹4,800. Tolls, parking, and driver allowance are additional. There's no advance payment. You pay the driver after the trip.
